is even older than rice in Chinese history. Cantonese people are very particular about the cooking of congee. A gruel of boiled rice and water serves as a background for a host of other foods including fish, shrimp, chicken, peanuts, sesame seeds, and eggs. In China, where it’s also known as jook or juk, congee is particularly popular for breakfast. In Thailand, this dish is known as Khao Tom Gung. Rice porridge, eaten from Japan to Persia as breakfasts, snacks, and lunches, is considered warming and soothing, as well as a stabilizing influence on the stomach and digestive tract. The English word congee is derived from the Indian kanji, meaning boilings, a Tamil word for the water in which rice is boiled. In India today, kanji refers both to this “rice water” drained off when rice is cooked like pasta and to the thick gruel made by boiling a little rice with a lot of water.

"We came on a weekday night without reservation with a party of 7 and were served very quickly. A great spot for classic family style Chinese food.
I highly recommend the salt and pepper clams, house special chicken, and the walnut shrimp. They also give free watermelon for dessert."

"So far the best Cantonese restaurant found in nyc! Both the decoration and accents of the waiters made you fell at home, and the dishes are awesome.
Came in during a weekday noon and there’s no need to wait. We had chicken, fish and fried rice noodles and none of them disappointed us. Although the translation of the restaurant is “home of porridge” but we were to full to try the porridge (will try it next time!). Personally I love the fried rice noodles the most, and it tastes the same as what I had back in Guangzhou.
Service was great and all waiters talked in Cantonese which is a plus. Great place and a 5/5."

"Great and fresh food! Authentic flavors from China for sure!
I HIGHLY recommend the steak! There's something about the steak that's soooooo good! The fish was good, the clams were great as well!
Don't be fooled by the name! EVERYTHING IS GOOD HERE. Would certainly visit again."

"Went in for lunch with the team after photo shoot. All the dishes we ordered were super delicious. I don’t eat beef but it looked really tempting. Loved the whole chicken. The portions were huge. We were 8 people & ordered 7 dishes, it was more than enough that we had leftovers. The place is quite big & nice. Definitely would like to try congee next time."
